Instructions for Using KA78M05:

  1. Input Voltage (VI):

    • Ensure the input voltage is within the range of 7V to 40V.
    • The input voltage should be at least 1.5V higher than the output voltage (5V) to maintain regulation.
  2. Output Voltage (VO):

    • The output voltage is fixed at 5V. No external components are required to set this voltage.
  3. Output Current (IO):

    • The regulator can provide up to 1.5A of current, with a typical output current of 1A.
    • Ensure that the load does not exceed the maximum output current to avoid overheating or damage.
  4. Dropout Voltage (VDROP):

    • The dropout voltage is typically 1.5V. This means the input voltage must be at least 6.5V to ensure stable 5V output.
  5. Quiescent Current (IQ):

    • The quiescent current is typically 5mA and can go up to 10mA.
    • This current is drawn by the regulator itself and is not available for the load.
  6. Line Regulation:

    • The line regulation is typically 0.01% per volt, indicating excellent stability of the output voltage with respect to changes in input voltage.
  7. Load Regulation:

    • The load regulation is typically 0.01% per milliamp, indicating excellent stability of the output voltage with respect to changes in load current.
  8. Ripple Rejection:

    • The ripple rejection is typically 60dB, which means the regulator effectively reduces input ripple to the output.
  9. Operating Temperature (TOP):

    • The operating temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C.
    • Ensure that the ambient temperature and heat dissipation are managed to keep the regulator within this range.
  10. Storage Temperature (TS):

    • The storage temperature range is from -65°C to 150°C.
    • Store the regulator in a dry environment to prevent moisture damage.
  11. Heat Dissipation:

    • Use a heatsink if the regulator will be operating at high currents or in high-temperature environments to prevent overheating.
  12. Capacitors:

    • It is recommended to use a 0.33μF ceramic capacitor on the input and a 0.1μF ceramic capacitor on the output for stability and noise reduction.
  13. PCB Layout:

    • Keep the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the regulator to minimize inductance and improve performance.
    • Use wide traces for power and ground to reduce resistance and improve heat dissipation.
  14. Polarity:

    • Ensure correct polarity when connecting the input and output. Reversing the polarity can damage the regulator.
