Instructions for Using DS1687-5+
Power Supply:
- Connect the VCC pin to a supply voltage between 2.0V and 5.5V.
- Connect the GND pin to ground.
Clock Input:
- Connect a 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator between X1 and X2 pins for accurate timekeeping.
Frequency Output:
- The SQW/OUT pin can be configured to output a square wave at 1 Hz, 2 Hz, 4 Hz, or 8 Hz. Use the control registers to set the desired frequency.
Real-Time Clock:
- Set the initial time using the appropriate registers. The RTC updates the time every second.
Alarms:
- Configure up to 4 alarms by setting the alarm registers. Alarms can be set to trigger on specific seconds, minutes, hours, and days.
Write Protection:
- Enable write protection to prevent accidental changes to the RTC settings. This is controlled via a specific register bit.
Power-On Reset:
- The device automatically resets when power is applied, ensuring a clean start.
Standby Mode:
- To reduce power consumption, put the device into standby mode by setting the appropriate register bit. The current consumption in this mode is approximately 1 μA.
Reading Time and Status:
- Read the current time and status of the RTC and alarms by accessing the relevant registers.
Square Wave Output:
- Configure the square wave output to generate a signal at the desired frequency. This can be used for various timing applications.
