Instructions for Using M48T08-100

  1. Power Supply:

    • Connect the Vcc pin to a power supply within the range of 2.0V to 5.5V.
    • Connect the GND pin to the ground.
  2. Clock Initialization:

    • After powering up, the RTC will start running from the internal oscillator.
    • Use the appropriate I2C or SPI commands to set the initial time and date.
  3. Reading Time and Date:

    • Use the I2C or SPI read commands to access the current time and date registers.
    • The time and date are stored in BCD (Binary-Coded Decimal) format.
  4. Writing to RAM:

    • To write data to the non-volatile RAM, use the I2C or SPI write commands.
    • Ensure that the write cycle time of 10ms is observed to prevent data corruption.
  5. Reading from RAM:

    • Use the I2C or SPI read commands to access the data stored in the non-volatile RAM.
    • The read cycle time is 1.5μs.
  6. Standby Mode:

    • To enter standby mode, set the appropriate control register bit.
    • In standby mode, the device consumes only 500nA of current.
  7. Temperature Considerations:

    • Ensure that the operating temperature remains within -40°C to +85°C for reliable operation.
    • Store the device within the storage temperature range of -65°C to +150°C.
  8. Data Retention:

    • The device retains data for a minimum of 10 years when powered off.
  9. Oscillator Adjustment:

    • The internal oscillator provides a clock accuracy of ±200ppm at 25°C.
    • For higher accuracy, consider using an external oscillator or trimming the internal oscillator.
  10. Handling Precautions:

    • Handle the device with care to avoid static damage.
    • Follow proper soldering techniques to ensure reliable connections.
