Instructions for Using the DS2401

  1. Powering the Device:

    • Connect the VCC pin to a supply voltage between 3.0 V and 5.5 V.
    • Connect the GND pin to ground.
  2. Connecting to the 1-Wire Bus:

    • Connect the DQ pin to the 1-Wire bus.
    • The 1-Wire bus requires a pull-up resistor (typically 4.7 kΩ) connected between the DQ line and VCC.
  3. Reading the Serial Number:

    • Initialize the 1-Wire master to start communication.
    • Send the Reset command (0xF0) to reset the 1-Wire bus.
    • Send the Read ROM command (0x33) to read the 64-bit serial number from the DS2401.
    • The 1-Wire master will receive the 8-byte serial number in response.
  4. Programming the Device:

    • Apply 12 V to the VCC pin to enter programming mode.
    • Send the Write Scratchpad command (0x0F) followed by the 64-bit serial number to be programmed.
    • Send the Copy Scratchpad command (0x55) to copy the scratchpad contents to the EEPROM.
    • Wait for the programming time (10 ms typical) before sending any further commands.
  5. Write Protection:

    • Once the device is programmed, it becomes write-protected and cannot be reprogrammed.
    • Verify the programmed serial number using the Read ROM command to ensure correct programming.
  6. Handling and Storage:

    • Store the device in a dry environment to prevent moisture damage.
    • Handle the device with care to avoid static discharge, which can damage the internal circuitry.
