Instructions for Use
Power Supply:
- Connect Vcc (pin 16) to the positive supply voltage (2.0 V to 5.5 V).
- Connect GND (pin 8) to the ground.
Clock Input:
- Apply the clock signal to the CP (pin 10) to advance the counter.
- The counter advances on the rising edge of the clock signal.
Reset:
- Connect MR (pin 1) to Vcc or GND to control the reset function.
- When MR is high (Vcc), the counter is reset to 0000.
- When MR is low (GND), the counter operates normally.
Outputs:
- The outputs QA (pin 3), QB (pin 2), QC (pin 4), and QD (pin 5) provide the binary count from 0000 to 1111 (0 to 15 in decimal).
Cascade Operation:
- To cascade multiple counters, connect the ripple carry output (RCO, pin 11) to the clock input (CP) of the next counter.
Decoding Outputs:
- Use the outputs directly or through additional logic to decode specific count values.
Handling Precautions:
- Ensure proper handling to avoid static damage.
- Do not exceed the maximum ratings specified in the datasheet.
Testing:
- Verify the functionality by applying a known clock signal and monitoring the output states with a logic analyzer or oscilloscope.
