Instructions for Using ADM2485BRWZ

  1. Power Supply:

    • Ensure the supply voltage (VDD) is within the specified range of 3.0V to 5.5V.
    • Connect the ground (GND) pin to the system ground.
  2. Signal Connections:

    • Connect the differential input pins (A, B) to the RS-485 bus.
    • Connect the differential output pins (Y, Z) to the RS-485 bus.
    • The driver enable (DE) and receiver enable (RE) pins control the direction of data flow:
      • Set DE high to enable the driver.
      • Set RE low to enable the receiver.
      • For half-duplex operation, connect DE and RE together.
  3. Termination:

    • Use termination resistors (120Ω) at both ends of the RS-485 bus to minimize reflections and improve signal integrity.
  4. Isolation:

    • The ADM2485BRWZ provides galvanic isolation up to 2500Vrms. Ensure that the isolation barrier is not exceeded to avoid damage.
  5. Temperature Considerations:

    • Operate the device within the temperature range of -40°C to 85°C for reliable performance.
    • Store the device within the temperature range of -65°C to 150°C.
  6. Data Rate:

    • The maximum data rate supported is 50 Mbps. Ensure that the communication protocol and system design are compatible with this rate.
  7. Propagation Delay and Skew:

    • Account for the propagation delay of 15 ns and skew of 3 ns when designing the timing of your system.
  8. Common-Mode and Differential Input Voltage:

    • Ensure that the common-mode input voltage range (-7V to 12V) and differential input voltage range (-25V to 25V) are not exceeded to prevent damage to the device.
  9. ESD Protection:

    • Handle the device with proper ESD precautions to avoid damage from static electricity.
  10. PCB Layout:

    • Follow recommended PCB layout guidelines to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Keep signal traces short and use ground planes to reduce noise and interference.
