Instructions for Using the LM350T:

  1. Input Voltage:

    • Ensure the input voltage is within the range of 3.0V to 40.0V.
    • The input voltage must be at least 2.0V higher than the desired output voltage to maintain regulation.
  2. Output Voltage:

    • The output voltage can be adjusted from 1.2V to 37.0V using external resistors.
    • Use the following formula to set the output voltage: [ V_ = 1.25 left(1 + fracright) ] where ( R_1 ) is the resistor connected between the output and adjust pins, and ( R_2 ) is the resistor connected between the adjust pin and ground.
  3. Output Current:

    • The LM350T can provide up to 5.0A of output current, with a typical current of 3.0A.
    • Ensure proper heat sinking if operating at high currents to prevent overheating.
  4. Thermal Management:

    • The thermal resistance from the junction to ambient is 65°C/W.
    • Use a heatsink to keep the device temperature within safe limits, especially when operating at high power dissipation.
  5. Capacitors:

    • Place a 0.1μF ceramic capacitor close to the input pin to filter out noise.
    • A 10μF electrolytic capacitor on the output pin helps stabilize the output voltage and improve transient response.
  6. Storage and Operating Temperature:

    • Store the device between -65°C and 150°C.
    • Operate the device between -40°C and 125°C to ensure reliable performance.
  7. Layout Considerations:

    • Keep the traces between the input, output, and ground as short as possible to minimize parasitic inductance and resistance.
    • Use wide traces for the output to handle high currents efficiently.
  8. Protection:

    • The LM350T includes internal overcurrent and thermal shutdown protection.
    • However, it is recommended to add external fuses or current-limiting resistors for additional safety.
  9. Adjust Pin:

    • The adjust pin is used to set the output voltage. Ensure it is properly biased and not left floating.
    • A small current (typically 50μA) flows out of the adjust pin, which should be accounted for in the resistor calculations.
  10. Testing:

    • Before finalizing the design, test the circuit under various load conditions to ensure stable operation and correct output voltage.
