Instructions for Using LM2585S-ADJ
Input Capacitor (CIN):
- Place a 1 渭F ceramic capacitor close to the input pin to filter out noise and provide a stable input voltage.
Output Capacitor (COUT):
- Use a 10 渭F to 100 渭F electrolytic or tantalum capacitor to smooth the output voltage. For better transient response, add a 0.1 渭F ceramic capacitor in parallel.
Inductor (L):
- Choose an inductor with a value between 10 渭H and 150 渭H. The inductor should have a saturation current rating higher than the maximum output current.
Feedback Resistor Network:
- The output voltage is set by the feedback resistor network. The formula to calculate the output voltage is: [ V_ = 1.23 left(1 + fracright) ]
- Typical values for R1 are 1 k惟 to 10 k惟. Adjust R2 accordingly to achieve the desired output voltage.
Shutdown Pin (SHDN):
- To enable the regulator, connect the SHDN pin to VIN or leave it floating. To disable the regulator, pull the SHDN pin to GND.
Thermal Considerations:
- Ensure adequate heat dissipation by mounting the IC on a heatsink if operating at high currents or in high ambient temperatures.
PCB Layout:
- Keep the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the respective pins.
- Use wide traces for power paths to minimize voltage drops and heating.
- Ground planes can help improve thermal performance and reduce noise.
Transient Response:
- For applications requiring fast transient response, consider using a smaller output capacitor and a faster switching frequency.
Overvoltage Protection:
- The LM2585S-ADJ has built-in overvoltage protection, but external clamping diodes may be necessary for extreme conditions.
Capacitor ESR:
- Use capacitors with low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) to minimize ripple and improve stability. However, ensure that the ESR is not too low to avoid instability issues.
