Instructions for Using the MAX487EEPA+
Power Supply:
- Connect the VCC pin to a 5V power supply.
- Ensure the supply voltage is within the specified range (4.75V to 5.25V).
Signal Lines:
- Connect the differential input lines (DI and /DI) to the data source.
- Connect the differential output lines (RO and /RO) to the receiver.
Driver Enable:
- Set the DE pin high to enable the driver.
- Set the DE pin low to disable the driver.
Receiver Enable:
- Set the /RE pin low to enable the receiver.
- Set the /RE pin high to disable the receiver.
Ground Connection:
- Connect the GND pin to the ground of the system.
Termination:
- For optimal performance, terminate the RS-485 bus with 120Ω resistors at both ends of the bus.
Data Rate:
- The MAX487EEPA+ supports data rates up to 2.5 Mbps. Ensure that the propagation delay and skew are within acceptable limits for your application.
Short-Circuit Protection:
- The device has built-in short-circuit protection. However, avoid prolonged short circuits to prevent damage.
Quiescent Current:
- When all drivers are disabled, the quiescent current is typically 100 μA. This helps in reducing power consumption in idle states.
Operating Temperature:
- The device is designed to operate over the industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Ensure that the operating environment does not exceed these limits.
Handling Precautions:
- Handle the device with care to avoid static discharge, which can damage the sensitive components.
- Follow proper ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) precautions during handling and installation.
