Instructions for Use:

  1. Mounting:

    • Ensure the BTA24 is mounted on a heatsink if it will be operating at or near its maximum current ratings.
    • Use thermal compound between the triac and the heatsink to improve heat transfer.
  2. Triggering:

    • The gate trigger current (IGT) must be sufficient to turn the triac on. Ensure that the gate current is within the specified range (5-100 mA).
    • The gate trigger voltage (VGT) should be within 0.8 to 2.0 V.
  3. Current Handling:

    • Do not exceed the rated RMS current (16 A) for continuous operation.
    • For short-term peak currents, ensure they do not exceed the non-repetitive peak on-state current (100 A) or the repetitive peak on-state current (50 A for 10 ms).
  4. Voltage Blocking:

    • The triac can block up to 400 V in the off-state. Ensure the supply voltage does not exceed this value.
  5. Temperature Management:

    • Operate the triac within the junction temperature range (-40掳C to 125掳C).
    • Store the triac within the storage temperature range (-40掳C to 125掳C).
  6. Holding Current:

    • Ensure the load current remains above the holding current (10-50 mA) to keep the triac in the on-state.
  7. Surge Protection:

    • Consider using a snubber circuit (RC network) to protect against voltage transients and surges.
  8. Testing:

    • Before installing the triac in a final application, test it under controlled conditions to ensure proper operation.
