Instructions for Use
Mounting:
- Ensure the 5501 is mounted on a heatsink if continuous high current operation is expected.
- Use thermal compound between the device and heatsink to improve heat dissipation.
Circuit Connection:
- Connect the Anode (A) to the positive side of the load.
- Connect the Cathode (K) to the negative side of the load.
- The Gate (G) is used to trigger the SCR. Apply a positive pulse to the gate relative to the cathode to turn the SCR on.
Triggering:
- The SCR will remain on once triggered until the current through the device drops below the holding current (IH).
- To turn off the SCR, reduce the load current below the holding current or remove the voltage across the SCR.
Protection:
- Use a snubber circuit (RC network) across the SCR to protect against voltage transients.
- Consider adding a fuse in series with the load to protect against overcurrent conditions.
Handling:
- Handle the 5501 with care to avoid damage to the leads and the body.
- Avoid exposing the device to excessive static electricity, which can damage the internal structure.
Testing:
- Test the SCR using a multimeter to check for continuity between the anode and cathode when the gate is triggered.
- Ensure the SCR does not conduct when the gate is not triggered.
