Instructions for Use

  1. Mounting:

    • Ensure the 5501 is mounted on a heatsink if continuous high current operation is expected.
    • Use thermal compound between the device and heatsink to improve heat dissipation.
  2. Circuit Connection:

    • Connect the Anode (A) to the positive side of the load.
    • Connect the Cathode (K) to the negative side of the load.
    • The Gate (G) is used to trigger the SCR. Apply a positive pulse to the gate relative to the cathode to turn the SCR on.
  3. Triggering:

    • The SCR will remain on once triggered until the current through the device drops below the holding current (IH).
    • To turn off the SCR, reduce the load current below the holding current or remove the voltage across the SCR.
  4. Protection:

    • Use a snubber circuit (RC network) across the SCR to protect against voltage transients.
    • Consider adding a fuse in series with the load to protect against overcurrent conditions.
  5. Handling:

    • Handle the 5501 with care to avoid damage to the leads and the body.
    • Avoid exposing the device to excessive static electricity, which can damage the internal structure.
  6. Testing:

    • Test the SCR using a multimeter to check for continuity between the anode and cathode when the gate is triggered.
    • Ensure the SCR does not conduct when the gate is not triggered.
  7. Storage:

    • Store the 5501 in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
    • Keep the device in its original packaging to prevent damage during storage.
