Instructions

  1. Power Supply Connection:

    • Connect VCC to the positive supply (4.5V to 5.5V).
    • Connect GND to the ground.
  2. Quadrature Inputs:

    • Connect the A and B quadrature signals to the respective inputs.
    • Ensure the A and B signals have a 90掳 phase difference for proper decoding.
  3. Index Input:

    • If using an index signal, connect it to the Z input for absolute position reference.
    • If not using an index, leave the Z input unconnected or tie it to GND.
  4. Mode Selection:

    • Set the resolution by connecting the mode pins (MODE1 and MODE2) to either VCC or GND:
      • 1x Resolution: MODE1 = GND, MODE2 = GND
      • 2x Resolution: MODE1 = VCC, MODE2 = GND
      • 4x Resolution: MODE1 = VCC, MODE2 = VCC
  5. Outputs:

    • Up/Down: Indicates the direction of rotation (High for one direction, Low for the other).
    • Index: Pulses high when the index signal is detected.
    • Enable: Active low; set to GND to enable the decoder.
    • Reset: Active low; set to GND to reset the counter.
  6. Installation:

    • Ensure the IC is securely mounted on the PCB.
    • Use appropriate decoupling capacitors near the power supply pins to reduce noise.
  7. Testing:

    • Apply a known quadrature signal to the A and B inputs.
    • Monitor the Up/Down and Index outputs to verify correct operation.
    • Check the Enable and Reset pins to ensure they function as expected.
  8. Troubleshooting:

    • If the outputs do not respond, check the power supply and input signals.
    • Verify the mode pin settings for the desired resolution.
    • Ensure all connections are secure and free from shorts.
