Instructions for Use

  1. Input Capacitor Selection:

    • Use a ceramic capacitor with X5R or X7R dielectric.
    • Recommended value: 1 渭F to 10 渭F.
    • Ensure the capacitor has a voltage rating higher than the maximum input voltage.
  2. Output Capacitor Selection:

    • Use a ceramic capacitor with X5R or X7R dielectric.
    • Recommended value: 4.7 渭F to 10 渭F.
    • Ensure the capacitor has a voltage rating higher than the output voltage.
  3. Inductor Selection:

    • Choose an inductor with a saturation current higher than the maximum output current.
    • Recommended value: 2.2 渭H to 4.7 渭H.
    • Ensure the inductor has a low DC resistance (DCR) to minimize power loss.
  4. PCB Layout:

    • Place the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the TPS61170DRVR.
    • Keep the ground plane solid and wide to ensure good thermal performance.
    • Use short and wide traces for high current paths.
  5. Thermal Management:

    • Ensure adequate heat dissipation by using a large copper area on the PCB.
    • Consider adding a heatsink if operating at high temperatures or high output currents.
  6. Shutdown Function:

    • Connect the SHDN pin to GND to turn off the device.
    • Connect the SHDN pin to VIN to enable the device.
    • The shutdown current is very low, making it suitable for battery-powered applications.
  7. Stability:

    • The TPS61170DRVR is internally compensated and does not require external compensation components.
    • Ensure the recommended component values and types are used to maintain stability.
  8. Handling Precautions:

    • Handle the device with care to avoid damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD).
    • Follow proper soldering techniques to avoid thermal stress on the device.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure optimal performance and reliability of the TPS61170DRVR in your application.
