Instructions:

  1. Input Capacitor Selection: Choose an input capacitor with a low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and sufficient ripple current rating. A ceramic or tantalum capacitor is recommended.

  2. Output Capacitor Selection: The output capacitor should have a low ESR to minimize output ripple. For best performance, use a tantalum or ceramic capacitor with an ESR between 0.1Ω and 2Ω.

  3. Inductor Selection: Select an inductor with a saturation current higher than the maximum output current. An inductance value of 100μH to 470μH is typically used.

  4. Feedback Resistor Network: To set the output voltage, connect two resistors (R1 and R2) from the ADJ pin to ground and VOUT respectively. Use the formula ( V_ = 1.23 left(1 + fracright) ).

  5. Bypass Capacitors: Place bypass capacitors close to the power supply pins to ensure stable operation. A 0.1μF ceramic capacitor is generally sufficient.

  6. PCB Layout Considerations: Keep the traces short and wide, especially for high-current paths. Ensure good thermal management by providing adequate copper area for heat dissipation.

  7. Thermal Management: If operating near the maximum load, consider adding a heatsink or improving airflow to maintain the junction temperature within the specified range.

  8. Startup Characteristics: The device starts up when the input voltage exceeds the UVLO threshold. Ensure that the input voltage rises slowly to avoid inrush current issues.

  9. Short-Circuit Protection: The LM2576SX-ADJ has built-in overcurrent protection which limits the output current during a short circuit. The device will automatically restart after the fault condition is removed.

  10. Shutdown Mode: To enter shutdown mode, pull the EN/UVLO pin below 1.3V. In this mode, the quiescent current drops to approximately 5mA.
